Lights That Dazzle
What fun to see the Christmas lights go up on Neighborhood homes and trees wrapped with lights! It’s even more fun to go to parks or other places which put up special shows with unbelievably large numbers of lights in all kinds of colors, designs and scenes. Sometimes we drive through the park to see the displays. Sometimes, we bundle up from head to toe and brave the cold to walk in the midst of the beautiful lights. Year after year, light displays delight me. They never fail to brighten my heart and lift my spirits, no matter how many times I’ve seen them before. I haven’t outgrown my love for the lights of Christmas in whatever form they take.
If I can take time out of the busyness of the Christmas season to enjoy Christmas lights, surely, I can take the time to enjoy the inner light of people that cross my path. If we stop to notice, God’s love lights up people in special ways so they sparkle with the reflection of His love. The lovely color of generosity shines when someone gives us a compliment. A gorgeous twinkling of uplifting light shines from a thoughtful gesture, even so simple as yielding a place in line to another. The light of a child laughing sparkles long after we hear it. Hope brings a bright iridescence color when it bursts across our hearts because someone whispers a word of encouragement. We are exhorted by Matthew 5:14 to be the light of the world and in verse 15 not to hide our light. Verse 16 tells us to let our light shine and glorify our father who is in Heaven. Let’s take time to appreciate the light that shines from our family, friends and strangers this Christmas season. Let’s take moments to allow the light that shines from others to soak through to our conscious thoughts and lifts our spirits with joy. Let’s ask God to help us shine forth with the particular kind of light He wants to wrap around us for other’s comfort and joy.
