Long, Long Ago

 

500 AD. That’s a long time ago. The Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado contains amazing evidence of a civilization that nestled in the cliffs that long ago. The buildings evidence a measure of sophistication. The people needed great agility to climb up the steep sides to the top of the mesa to tend their crops and down again for their living facilities. Circular pits indicate the inhabitants conducted some kind of religious observations. What fascinating thoughts and speculations this National Park triggers. Since God was present when mankind was created, we know God was aware of this ancient people originally called Anasazi and more recently called Ancestral Puebloans. How much did they understand about God? What kind of revelations did He give them? There are no written records from this civilization to shed any light on all this conjecture.

 

Today we have the Bible which documents the nature of our God. This book records His interest and care for people from the very beginning. The fact that this Mesa society achieved such complex living compounds presents tantalizing evidence of God’s revelation which enabled them to develop living patterns and change them to improve their lives. What a comfort to realize that God cares about people and wants to be involved in our lives. Thank you, God, for every whisper of interest in your people.  Thank you for helping us respond to You as we proceed with our lives. Help us adapt and conform to Your Will as we live out our days.
