Magnificent Quilts, Amazing Skill
I couldn’t stop smiling as I walked around a quilt festival bustling with people. Dozens of quilts hung to provide eye-pleasing splashes of color, amazingly intricate stitching, and mind-boggling designs of beauty. I marveled at the talent that could meld tiny pieces of cloth into facial portraits that clearly resembled the actual photograph of the couple hanging next to the quilted picture. I stood before quilts that presented patterns that my brain could never have imagined had I not seen it first. Yet someone else’s intellect had brilliantly conceived the pattern. The variety of methods, skills, and ideas amazed me. Each quilt presented a different delight. The wide variety of quilts were made for assorted reasons. From the small quilts designed to decorate a wall to the large ones made to warm a bed, the quilts satisfied a purpose. From the intricate ones completed in hopes of winning a prize to those crafted to honor a memory, each quilt satisfied a special goal.
The people enjoying the quilt show were as interesting as the quilts. Our awe inspiring God creates each unique person to fulfill His varied purposes. He imparts varied skills and scatters astounding ideas among us to fit the ways we will contribute to the Kingdom of God. We need not envy those whose talents seem greater or better than ours. A sincere smile can warm another’s a heart a well as a quilt. A genuine compliment is prized as much as an intricate creation, and a home-made meal decorates a home as well as a wall hanging. When we recognize and enjoy other’s talents and abilities, we are acknowledging the marvelous involvement of God. Thank God for the variety of His world. Ask Him to develop and use us in the ways that please Him and to grow the abilities He has placed in us. The abilities God gives you bring joy to those around you and stir the heart every bit as well as a quilt displayed at a quilt show.
