Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

Memories

I’m always glad when I’m at a gathering that sings “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. My first thought upon hearing that song is of my Grandfather who sang in a barbershop quartet at church. A large man with a deep, powerful voice, I can hear his booming voice in my mind whenever I hear that particular song. I can picture his face and his considerable belly, standing in the church’s recreation hall in a grey suit. These memories had to be established before I was 7, because that was the year he died. What a wonderful memory to carry.  He was singing in praise of his Savior, providing a launching pad for my own developing faith.

What will elicit memories of me for my grandchildren when I’ve stepped through the veil to the other side? Is there anything in my walk with God that will make enough of an impression for my Grandchildren to remember me as a Christian?  Will that memory be a pleasant one that draws them to Jesus or a distasteful one? What about you? What kind of memories are you creating today? Do we participate in pleasant times with our grandchildren? I hope my conversation conveys love and approval which mirrors God’s love and delight in them.  Will I be remembered for wearing a smile or a frown?  Will they ever remember me praying or lifting my hands to my God? Please God, help us all build memories in our Grandchildren that reinforce their self-confidence and how You value them. May they see the reality of You in this world and my life.
