Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Multitasking
With a grin, I planted my feet at the crossing of the lines that separated the states of Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. I was standing in four states at once. Something about visiting the corner where four state lines meet together satisfied a place in me that has spent much of my life trying to accomplish several things at the same time. Our United States map shows several places where three state lines meet, but only one where four states come together. How appropriate that it is on the land of an Indian Reservation, the first residents of our country. I hope this well-designed, singular place brings those people a happy profit in both income and enjoyment of the diverse people who come to celebrate this special place.
Since this is the only place where a person can be in four states at the same time, it made me think how most of us have lives that contain times when we need to juggle several roles all at once. We have our figurative feet planted in several projects at the same time. The corner where the states meet offers a view of vast, open land on all sides. Land God created. We do well to remember to consult the creator of our lives before we try to do more than we can manage. The fact that this is the only place where four states connect probably gives us a guide line about organizing our lives so that we aren’t trying to stretch over too much at the same time very often. God, give us wisdom about which roles to combine, which tasks to undertake and in what order. Help us recognize our limitations and yet acknowledge your ability to empower us. Also, we are sorry about past times when our ancestors did not react to one another as you would have desired. Help us in this generation treat people with respect and convey Your love.
