Mary’s Mondays Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Musicians
The people who performed the Handbell Consort we attended were amazingly active during the concert. At various points they traded places with one another to shake a different size bell and gently strum out distinctive sounds at just the right place in the musical piece. The sheer muscle power required to create the bong of the larger bells was daunting. And the skill of rapidly adjusting the position of two bells in one hand just right to make the fast change from one note to another was awe inspiring. Obviously, the performance was the result of much practice that resulted in the mastery of more than one size and tone in multiple bells and chimes.
Life is a bit like that. We need to dedicate ourselves to the practice necessary to master any skill required for our jobs or any set of accomplishments required for our recreation. We need practice to master the motions, the verbal skills or the empathy required to make lovely harmony wherever we go and when ever we try to communicate with one another. On our own, by ourselves, we can observe others, we can practice, we can study, but it is only in cooperation with others that we can achieve the harmony that reaches inside another person to create a change. We need each other on this walk-through life. We need one another’s encouragement when the going gets rough. We need one another’s help when our strength wanes. We need one another’s enthusiasm when we are weary with welldoing. We were created to build one another up, to live in harmonious cooperation. God is the master director of life on this earth. He knows just how to train us, to utilize our talents, to expand our abilities. God, please help us submit to your direction so that we may be instruments in your hands to create harmonious sounds in our daily walk.
