New Beginnings
We all are rejoicing mightily to see the end of this very unusual, frequently nasty year of 2020. While there have been some grand and glorious happenings this year such as the miracle of babies’ births, the mix of 2020 events leans more to the bad, dreadful, and downright alarming. Everyone is more than ready for a fresh start. We all long for a much better 2021 with a lot less disasters, dangers, and despair on every front. The most wonderful thing about the beginning of a fresh new year is hope–hope for a good year which brings better circumstances and fulfilled expectations.
The wonderful news is that we don’t have to flip the calendar for a fresh start. We can find a fresh start any day, any hour by simply turning our hearts toward God. Falling on our knees is a wonderful way to begin again, but our body posture is not important. What matters is putting our hopes, our trust in God. Whenever we ask, God is quick to forgive where we have fallen short. He loves us. God’s love is far greater than our human capacity to grasp its full extent. His love carries us through our day-to-day life. It’s not the result of a complicated requirement, ceremony or action. God’s love is there for all of us. He made us. All that is required is for us to give our hearts back to Him who made us–to believe He exists and cares for us. Ask God for the ability to love Him with all our heart and for the strength to follow Him in the good and the difficult. He will help us navigate this next year whatever it brings. While trusting Him isn’t always easy, He will even help us grow in trust when we ask. God is good and God is love, regardless of the events of 2021.
