Old Informs New
Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Old Informs New
Our delightful trip to learn about long ago days charmed our minds and prodded our thoughts. How many sailors owed their lives to New Jersey’s mighty fortress-like building bookended with twin lighthouses? A few miles away, how many people sat in pews and gawked at the President of their time in the brick church that was attended by seven Presidents over the gilded years of Long Branch, New Jersey? How many people were refreshed by the Atlantic Ocean across the street? The draw of the ocean hasn’t changed even if the shore where it’s waves roll and thunder has. The fascination of the sea along our coastline consistently pulls people to it. The dangers of the ocean still require warnings for safety. And churches still beckon people to learn about the safe haven God has provided.
The fundamental needs of mankind haven’t changed even if the buildings we use have. The way we think and our search for safety and comfort takes many forms, but God hasn’t changed even if our society has. He still beams the light of His love to save us from the dangers that roll and thunder against our shores and threaten our souls. He is the mighty fortress that protects us. We can still find a church where the gospel comforts and informs us of God’s grace and provision. Taking a look at old places and old ways keeps us reminded of the perpetual search of mankind for meaning, safety, and strength. While God is with us everywhere we go, going to church connects us with the fellowship of believers that provides enduring peace for our lives. Find a good church and thank God for it with your joyful attendance.
