Old Treasure
Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
An Old Treasure
Somewhere around 1,400 BC, Moses wrote the first five books of our Bible. Ponder how long ago that was. Think what a remarkable miracle occurred time and again when the words were copied and preserved over the centuries. Since the beginning of time, men have pondered the magnitude of God. I can picture men sitting around fires to tell and retell the stories of God at work in mankind. After the God-inspired invention of the printing press, people didn’t have to congregate with others to hear the stories of God, they could read the Bible for themselves. Men died for their audacity to put the words of God into writing so we could have access to it.
Every now and then philosophies arise to threaten our freedom of religion, yet God has intervened time and time again to preserve His Word and enlighten our souls. Even today, there are countries where the possession of a Bible puts a person at risk, societies where reading the Bible can result in death dealt by a fellow family member. In America, we have ready access to the Bible in whatever translation touches our heart. Yet, here many bibles lie gathering dust, untouched. Take a moment to reflect on the privilege we enjoy that multitudes of people in previous ages did not enjoy and even now that privilege is restricted in some places. The freedom to read and meditate on the words of the Bible is a precious advantage. Our gratitude is higher than the mountains and deeper than the sea. Thank You God for access to Your love letter to us.
