On Top of the Clouds

On Top of the Clouds

Our Airplane revved up the engines and roared off the runway. Bouncing and tipping some, the plane bored through the cloud cover that hovered over the area around the airport. In a short time, our plane leveled off above the clouds, and the puffy, white cloud blanket stretched out below us as far as our eyes could see. In contrast to the overcast, dreary sky while we sat on the ground, the sight from above was bright and beautiful.

We were flying to attend two, back-to-back family funerals. Sad occasions. Yet the sadness was well balanced by the joy of hugging and visiting with dearly loved family members rarely seen in person. Smiles, hugs and laughter accompanied the updating of news from treasured family. In spite of the reason for the gatherings, joy shone through the assembled people.

Writers often reference the experience of riding through a wide deep cloud cover to reach the sunshine above it to remind us how different reality is perceived depending on your perspective. Another important concept we can appreciate from a flight through clouds to sunshine is that even in the midst of loss, or bouncing through the turbulence of clouds, God can use His people to spread joy in spite of the situation. God, enable us to spread your sunshine even in the face of sad situations. Help us become the conveyers of Your great love so that we bring Your light wherever we go.
