One Plus One Doubles Work
They are beautiful, sweet, and tiny. How delightful to meet the first set of twins born into our family. Those little girls give us twice as much to enjoy and rejoice over—and twice as many diapers and feedings! It seems as if the parents also lose twice as much sleep in these early first weeks. Even if they yawn as they declare the joy of parenting twins, the sleepy-eyed parents of these precious babies deem them worthy of the increase of chores and the loss of sleep. They choose to enjoy the chores of these weeks and persist in focusing on the delights of rearing those little girls.
Do you suppose our heavenly Father has similar feelings about us when He watches over us as we develop day after day. He sees the ways we aren’t matching up to His hopes for us as yet, but He doesn’t give up on us. Instead He cares about us more than is humanly possible, and He delights in us. Whenever we find ourselves figuratively sleepless and mired in twice as much work as seems normal, we can choose to focus on the delights God provides in the midst of the chores. We can ask for Him to double our ability to find enjoyment in the work before us.
