Patches
Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Patches
A rescued turtle living at the Virginia Living Museum is named Patches because the museum managed to patch his broken shell when he was brought to his new home. Unable to live in the wild any more, he enjoys good care, a healthy diet, and safety in the Museum while his life serves the community when he is taken to schools, libraries, and other venues by his charming handler who educates us on what to do if we encounter a turtle in the wild. Do not touch a turtle, (or any wild animal). Instead, use a floor mat out of your car to urge and gently guide the turtle to a safer location. If he doesn’t cooperate, don’t shove and struggle with it. If possible, call someone in the community trained to help the creature.
As we go through life, the emotional shells we use to protect ourselves receive damage. We have people in our community who are trained to lead us to safe, healthy thinking which help patch us up. But, most important, we have Jesus who experienced the trials of life on this earth. He demonstrated his care and love, using supernatural ability to heal, help, and arrange solutions. His love is always available for us. He hears our cries for help and is willing to urge and gently lead us. His supernatural power is still available to us today. Hebrews 13:8 tells us ‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.’ Hear our cry, Jesus, and heal the brokenness of our world, protect us from the evils of today, and help us do what we can to bring blessings to those in need.
