Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Pictures
I love pictures. They capture precious memories to retrieve and relive. I’m not all that great a photographer with perfect composition and focus, but an image that preserves a loved one’s facial expression, a happy event, or a beautiful scene is worth revisiting even if it isn’t perfect. Each picture sets off a whole series of memories. In the midst of wonderful family occasions, I fight the impulse to snap and click absolutely everything throughout the event. I don’t want to be a nuisance and hog the best angles and positions, nor do I want to wear out people by trying to get a better picture. I’m not alone in my enjoyment of pictures. Plenty of photographers grace our family. Click, flash. Cameras are prevalent at weddings, birthdays, graduations. Most family and friends cooperate with smiles for gatherings of any nature.
As much as I enjoy pictures, I can’t take pictures of God, but I like to imagine He smiles over His people. I don’t have a pictorial record of His answers to prayers, but I have the Bible record of answers in Biblical days and the promise that God is the same today as yesterday. I don’t have pictures of Heaven, but I have the words of scripture that refer to Heaven. 2nd Corinthians 5:7 tells us ‘For we walk by faith, not by sight.’ That scripture reminds me that my faith matters over what I can see. I can’t take pictures of faith although I can take pictures of the actions that are the result of faith, so there are pictures in my albums that remind me of the goodness of God to my family. While I enjoy my pictures, it’s much more important that I ask God to keep my faith in clear focus. It’s by faith we enjoy our God and our life resonates with the images of His grace.
