Mary’s Monday Musings To Quilt Encouragement
Priceless Document
1716. That’s a long time ago. Three centuries plus one year to be exact. We had the privilege to attend a wedding held outside a tavern built in that year. The old Inn exuded charm. Located near Philadelphia, the staff enjoyed telling us that George Washington stayed there as well as a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Brave men put their lives at risk to sign that document and fight for our independence. My imagination could picture those great men swinging off of horses to meet inside this inn and toss around the concept of separating the colonies from the mother country.
Sitting in my house safe from the government billeting soldiers in it, safe from arrest because of how I worship God, I’m filled with gratitude to the ones who risked to establish our country. God supplied the wisdom that wrote the documents which founded our nation. I’m thankful for the courageous men who hazarded all that we might live free today. God’s hand is evident in many stories from the Revolutionary War that brought us freedom. His hand is still available to us to show the way to freedom from oppression and the pull of sin. When we ask, He frees us from behavior that hinders us and thought patterns that trap us. He brings us into a faith that causes us to enjoy him. July is a wonderful month to thank God for the men who forged our freedoms.
