Procrastination

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

Procrastinating.

The little pumpkin was perfectly shaped, a beautiful little globe of orange. Sporting a sturdy green stem, it provided an attractive addition to the centerpiece on my dining table. I planned to make some pumpkin pies from it when the fall season yielded to Christmas decorations. The cute little pumpkin managed to look charming the entire fall. I retired it to my utility room when I put up things for the Christmas holiday, still planning to turn it into pumpkin pies. You know the story before you read it. One thing after another put the project off day after day. Week after week, I’d see the still perky looking pumpkin every time I did the laundry and affirm in my mind that I would make it into pumpkin pie. While the time never seemed right, time did its normal work on the vegetable. Now it’s not cute and certainly not edible. The trash is the only place for it, not our stomachs. Neither would I want to put it out for wild animals.

What is there in my life that deteriorates, or even rots, if I procrastinate. What declines in my relationships when I neglect them? How stale does my communication with God become if I put off tending to it?  God help us be faithful to thank You for Your love and caring for our lives. Help us find Your order for our lives so that we manage to do what we need to do and what You want us to do. Help us manage our time and balance our obligations so that we are able to be spontaneous when needs require it.
