Raining Cats and Dogs—or Fish?
We were enjoying a perfect day for a walk, not too cold nor too hot. Sunshine and lovely spring blossoms brought a bounce to our steps. We were wondering about the name of some of the less common flowers when we were startled by an object falling from the sky and landing with a loud splat on the road beside us. There lay a moist nine or ten-inch creature. A quick look above made it clear it hadn’t dropped out of a tree. None hung over the road, but there right in the middle of the road lay a dead catfish. A fish dropped out of the sky and plopped nearby us. Not too far away from us is a pond stocked with fish. A large bird may have snatched it from there or some other water source and lost its grip right above us. We sat on a nearby bench to see if an Eagle or a large Hawk would return to retrieve his dinner, but no one came to claim it. Maybe we were too close. Another walker took care of the dead fish. Feeling very glad it didn’t land on us, we walked home.
Sometimes a totally unexpected and startling thing drops out of nowhere into our lives. Sometimes we can’t simply walk away from it. We don’t have to manage all the unpleasant, surprising things that plop onto the roads of our lives by ourselves. We can seek out professionals to help us solve situations or at least cope with them. We aren’t any less because we need help with some of our problems. God enables people to help one another. Often consulting with appropriate experts in the needed area is a very wise course. As with a dead fish, if we don’t find help, the stench can become very nasty. We can talk to God about any and every kind of surprise that threatens to leave an odor in our lives. He is the creator of wisdom and can help us figure out how to clean up the road of our life.
