Saved by the Savior
Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement.
Saved by the Savior
Easter time is a good time to recall a merciful rescue. My husband was alone at a pier where a submarine was under construction. Between below freezing temperatures, a bitter wind, and the dark of night he looked forward to reaching the relative warmth inside the submarine. He walked along the top of the cigar shaped hull toward an open hatch.
Unexpectedly, He stepped on an icy patch from a leaky steam valve on the rounded hull. Instantly his feet slipped out from under him, and he began to slide toward the icy water below. He desperately grabbed for something, anything to stop his slide. His hand seized a pipe, but the pipe carried hot steam for the construction so it burned his hand. For a moment he let go and slid some more. The situation was lethal. No one would know if he slid into the dangerously cold water below. He called out for Jesus to help him. Alternating hands for brief holds on the steamy hot pipe, he managed to get into a crawl position on the top of the round hull and reach the safety of the hatch. Thankful for safety, he examined his hands. They were not burned.
By the mercy of God, he escaped death that dark, cold night. God’s mercy is available to each of us. When Jesus died on the cross on that hill of Golgotha, God made provision for us to escape the consequences of our imperfect natures and provide the way for us to live in eternity with Him. We also enjoy the benefit of his love and interest in us for the rest of our days here on earth. We only need to believe Christ died for us. Easter invites us to believe in Jesus, the Son of God and join in the glad cry that has rung out throughout the centuries. He is Risen.
