Sea Gulls

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Sea Gulls

The storm left behind a strong wind, so we bundled up, grabbed left-over potato fries and walked to the beach. The storm and wind had swept the beach clean. Not a remnant of a shell decorated the clean sand, nor was there a bird in sight. We tossed a French fry high, but the wind carried it right back to our feet. Our mightiest pitch only carried the food a few feet at the most. How on earth did a couple of very small potato fries reach the eyes or nose of sea gulls who were out of sight? A mystery, indeed, but one gull came from we knew not where. He snatched a fry. How did he communicate to the small flock that food was at hand? The wind nearly drowned out his sounds, but it didn’t take very long before a small flock of the birds hovered against the wind. One at a time they braved a quick descent for a bite of food.

Ah, that we could be like the gulls. That we could detect when and where God tossed a delectable piece of spiritual nourishment for us to devour. That we would brave the winds of life to seize it and feed our spirits. That we would bundle up in the storms of life and seize the word God has for us in the midst of trouble. That we would hover around God until we can snatch a bit of revelation for us even in the business of life. God help us hear your still small voice even as life blows around us. Help us recognize Your call and lead the way for others to also feed at your feet.
