Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

A baby’s first steps are a thrill both to the child and the parents. Teetering and stumbling, the little one s wears a wide smile while taking those first steps. The instinctive response of anyone privileged to watch is to clap and cheer. All concerned are delighted with the baby’s advance to toddler, an important leap into mobility, a small step toward the ultimate goal of independence. There is something deeply planted in our young to stand and move up and onward. Once a little one enjoys standing and walking, there’s a strong built-in drive to stay upright and take off on their own. The parent’s challenge is to direct and corral where the child goes—and provide shoes to protect the feet.

Does our Heavenly Father clap and cheer when we take our first steps to conquer new skills, new responsibilities, new directions? I’m sure God is pleased when we dare to step out to pursue directions and responsibilities we feel called to do. As well as being there to cheer us on. Our Heavenly Father also is concerned with our protection. He is there to guide us and provide us with metaphorical shoes of protection against whatever rough, hot obstacles we encounter once we stand and move in different or challenging directions. It is well to pray when adults, as well as little children, stand in figurative new shoes to do new things. God, we ask you to help us as we step our way though life. We thank you for directing us and protecting us as we pick our way through the snares and problems of our days on this Earth. Help us keep our eyes on You and learn to listen and hear Your love, directions, and boundaries for us. Shod our feet and equip our hearts to accomplish your purposes for us.
