Silly Goose
Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Silly Goose
The goose stepped deliberate step by deliberate step across the interstate highway. Oblivious to the squeal of brakes and swerving cars, her five goslings waddled in a line after her. What was she thinking taking her babies across an interstate highway? Beyond the danger of a crowded high-speed road, the mother had not considered the double high Jersey Wall in the center between the lanes. While she could flap her wings and surmount the obstacle, her downy offspring could not possibly get past that barrier. We don’t know what happened to that misguided family because we proceeded on in order not to complicate the traffic further.
Obviously, the hapless mama goose wasn’t programed to recognize the man-made dangers into which she blithely led her dependent goslings. She was out of her natural element of pastoral surroundings. Fortunately, our brains were created to survive and even thrive in our complicated world. Nevertheless, sometimes we encounter situations that require more than our experience or knowledge provides. Before we step out into a strange or different situation, we would do well to check with others about what cautions or warnings more experienced people would give. Wisdom would also inquire of the Lord before blundering into unfamiliar situations and as well pray for God’s leading. Along with our own protection, we certainly don’t want to lead people, who depend on us astray. So, don’t be a silly goose, ask advice, do research, talk to God before launching out into the unknown.
