Snow

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

Snow

My husband and I live in a climate where it seldom snows. Hence, snow is a big event. When the forecast calls for snow, the grocery stores fill up with people who rapidly empty the shelves of staples. Because of the lack of practice, many of our local drivers are less able or confident to drive skillfully on ice or snow which results in cancellation of a vast number of scheduled events. School is often canceled because the state’s budget for snow removal doesn’t provide enough for clearing all neighborhood roads for busses. Children are delighted and eagerly build snowmen no matter how skimpy the quantity of snow that actually sticks to the ground. A bowl of chili, a fire in the fireplace, and a movie DVR all are anticipated delights of staying home because of the unusual occurrence of snowfall. During the winter we watch with sympathy the news pictures of our northern neighbors shoveling several feet of the cold stuff off their driveways time after time after time. At those times, we are glad we have much less to shovel.

Every region has its climate which offers its own set of advantages and disadvantages. We have a choice to either wallow in the aggravations of our climate or delight in the good aspects of it. We can live in dread or enjoyment. Moving is one way to change climates but bear in mind every location comes with its own assortment of pluses and minuses. Learning the art of contentment wherever we are will serve us well wherever the future takes us. Learning to make the best of each situation with a positive attitude will bless us in whatever is going on in our lives and whatever situations our futures holds. God, help us learn to look for the good in every aspect of our lives and to take each situation to You for Your help. Help us learn how to minimize the negatives in the way we view the circumstances of our lives and to focus on Your goodness towards us.
