Stability
Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Stability
Only two things are guaranteed: Death and Taxes. So, goes the centuries old maxim. The purpose of the saying is to help us recognize that change is inevitable in our lives and in those around us. Recognizing the inevitability of change doesn’t necessarily remove the degree of discomfort change brings, but it can ease us through the throes of change and help us adjust. Cultural norms change, plants whither, pets die, children grow up and move away.
Because people are mortal, change is inescapable, but while we still live, we can develop mechanisms that help us cope with change. We can remember not to hold our possessions and our dear ones too tightly and to stand ready to relinquish control. We can resolve to strive for flexible thinking. Best of all we can turn to God. Because our God is the God of concepts too grand and too vast for mere human understanding, we can ask Him to establish our emotional stability whenever our personal little world seems to tilt out of balance. We can ask Him to give us the ability to adjust to the changes in our personal lives. He is faithful to hold us as events, happenings, and changes shake us. He will keep our feet firmly planted in the stability of His unshakable love.
