Sunflowers

Sunflowers
Live sunflowers always make me smile, and an entire field of sunflowers makes me laugh. What is there about a sunflower that brings cheer? Perhaps it’s because they stand so tall and the blossoms are so large as well as the yellow so bright. The head of the sunflower reminds us of a face with long petals surrounding a big disc which is full of tasty seeds to provide us with a satisfying treat.
We can look to the sunflower as an example of how to supply cheer to those around us. Sunflowers grow on long, sturdy stems that bend and wave through wind and rain and yet remain standing. We can bend our attitudes to cheer up others when their lives encounter storms even when we don’t feel cheerful ourselves. If we stand with others in the winds and rains of life, we will experience the same results as a field of sunflowers who hold one another up simply by being there. A face with a wide smile accompanied by eyes conveying warmth will cheer people whether or not one is wearing a bright yellow garment. Offering some moments of companionship will bring a satisfaction better than tasty sunflower seeds. Let’s stay alert to opportunities to cheer those around us. As a result, we will feel cheered ourselves.
