Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
The Best Gift
As a child, my Christmas excitement centered around what I would find under the tree on Christmas morning. Several years a wonderful doll greeted me, and one remarkable year a puppy, wildly wagging his tail, greeted me Christmas morning. But my parents always provided opportunities each year for me to personally give to others, and they made sure I saw that the birth of Jesus was important to our celebration. We sang Christmas carols; we attended Church services. Our community had a number of Creche scenes to drive past.
Children are wonderfully open to receiving Jesus as part of their lives. I’m so glad I was introduced to Jesus when I was a child. However, as we grow, we encounter the danger of falling away from our love for Jesus. Or our love for God can become centered only on what he can do for us. Or we can consider Him a myth and ignore him. Christmas offers an excellent time to counter aspects of our culture which try to pull us away from God and to consider the wonder of Jesus. Jesus has power beyond human capacity to completely grasp. He spoke the Universe into being. He spoke our Earth-home into existence for us, complete with it’s wide variety of animals and vast kinds of insects. He created and directs the operation of the sun. He has the power to stop the rotation of the Earth, to change the orbits of the planets, He can shake the mountains and water the desert. Yet, He cares about us, each and every one of us. His love for us is perfect, far beyond the love humans know how to convey. His amazing desire to relate and communicate with us boggles our minds. He knows the end before the beginning. And yet, He came to Earth in the form of a humble baby so that we might grasp His love, learn to love Him and communicate with him.
The coming of Jesus with His abundant love which led to his sacrifice is the best gift we will ever receive. Let’s rejoice as we celebrate His amazing love this Christmas. Let’s generously spread it to all around us.
