The Christmas Miracle

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
The Christmas Miracle

I wonder how many recognized the miracle of Jesus that very first Christmas. From the Bible, we know that the shepherds on a nearby hillside did. They noted an unusual star and followed it to find and worship the Christ child in a manger. Some wise men, who must have attained remarkable knowledge of the heavens for their day and time, recognized that star as an unusual sign of an important event and set out on a journey to find Christ. Some researchers say Jesus was no longer a tiny infant when they finally arrived to worship Him. Given the difference in how news spread in those days, it’s likely many people living at the time didn’t know a miraculous birth had taken place. It is likely that the people who did hear about the birth of Jesus fell into at least three groups. One rejected the reports. Others heard the news and rejoiced. Still others heard and pondered whether it could be true but did not arrive at a decision either way.

I’ve often been glad I came into this world after The Bible was available, and lots of people had written good, strong research on the truth of the birth of Jesus. I’m thankful I wasn’t confronted with the necessity of making up my mind without all the resources and testimonies that came along later. Would I have heard and heeded the voice of God about His Son?

Christmas is a time to make sure our belief in Jesus as our Lord and Savior is an important part of our celebration. There is much to enjoy at Christmas time that has little to do with the birth of Jesus. While we may freely enjoy these Christmas customs, we do well to determine this Christmas season that we take time to also rejoice in the miracle of God coming to earth in human form. We celebrate this miracle which helps us to grasp His incomparable love for us revealed by this astounding step to reach the hearts and minds of people, allowing us to relate to Him. Let’s open our souls to receive and rejoice in the miracle of the birth of Jesus regularly, Christmas season and all year long.
