The Christmas Star

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

The Christmas Star

The Bible tells us about wise men who followed an extra bright star to find little Jesus.  A few days this December offered us a privileged peek into this story. What many are calling the Christmas star could be seen in the sky for a couple of hours beginning at dusk. It’s been 800 years since the bright planets Saturn and Jupiter aligned in their orbits to make one glorious, bright globe in the sky when viewed from earth. This unusual alignment of the planets orbits probably won’t be visible again for another 800 years. Scientists think a similar alignment formed the bright star guiding the astrologers who saw an unusual bright light from a large ‘star’ when Jesus was born. Imagine having the knowledge and boldness to see a distant star in their day, climb on their camels, and trudge off in in search of the little boy with a special destiny whom they believed was born under this unusual sign.

2020 is a perfect year to see a sign in the heavens which reminds us of the astonishing birth of God taking the form of a tiny human and coming down to earth from heaven to reconcile flawed mankind with our perfect God. He provided a pathway to unite us forever in Heaven. In spite of the enormity of the events of 2020, the sign of the planets lined up in the sky gives us a remarkable sign that God is still in charge. The events on earth don’t take Him by surprise, and He knows exactly what we need on this earth. God who controls the alignment of planets can handle all the mess we see around us.  We can remember that star of long ago and stand tall in our faith. He knows the needs of the inhabitants of earth. A joyful Hallelujah is as appropriate today as it was when Jesus was born. God has not forgotten us. He is in control. Hallelujah!
