The Power of a Smile

The Power of a Smile

A smile is as valuable as medicine. A smile has the power to lift our spirits like a good antidepressant makes the user feel better. It carries us to pleasant places beyond the trouble at hand, like a tranquilizer. It lifts spirits and strengthens one’s morale in a parallel way that muscle building exercises strengthen muscles. Smiles make a trial of the soul feel lighter and easier to carry. A big smile makes the receiver feel a sense of acceptance. Blessings fall on the bestower of big, genuine smiles as well. When we muster up glorious, reassuring, happy-to-see-you smiles on our own faces, we lift our own spirits. The wider and more genuine the smile, the greater the joy that flows in both directions.

One secret to spreading welcoming, happy, smiles as we move through our days, is to keep the happiness of those around us as a higher priority than our own. Remembering God’s love for people, helps us remember that blessing those around us is of great importance. Another pathway to giving out sincere smiles is to consider how you feel whenever you are on the receiving end of a smile. Let’s ask God to help us develop habits that bless those around us. Studies agree that it requires more energy and muscle power to frown than to smile. Let’s flood our surroundings with smiles. We may never know the effect they have. But if we watch closely, we may enjoy seeing someone else’s countenance brighten.
