Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

Think before Following

The mother duck waddled around the edges of the zoo’s outdoor food court. Her baby followed faithfully after her. Here and there Mama stopped to pick up a crumb, and her duckling mimicked her. Together they skirted the pavilion before she led her fluffy charge back to the pond. They swam out of sight to the sound of “aww” from our group of delighted visitors, both young and old.

Oh, that it would be so easy to get our little ones to follow us and mimic us as countless ducklings do each spring. Wait! Would it really be good for our offspring to mimic all that we do? I cringe at the thought. Not everything I say or do is worthy of imitation. I make mistakes and misjudgments. Better that we teach our youngsters how to determine the proper path to follow, how to make wise decisions, how to properly evaluate thoughts and attitudes. God help our younger generation and us to think carefully, evaluate well, and look at situations from every point of view. Teach our offspring to consult You and listen for Your answers before blindly following and mimicking what they see and hear.
