Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement
Trust
It gave me the hee-bee-gee-bees to watch the couple from a famous tightrope family work their way over a tight wire high above Times Square in New York City. I only watched re-runs later when I knew they had made it safely. Most of us would never consider risking our lives like that, but we regularly encounter situations that seem scary and we need to trust our God with the situation. Be it a health situation, a financial situation, or a relationship one, trust can sometimes be hard to attain and hang onto. We go back and forth over a decision and second guess it again and again, unsure we are making the right one. We can believe God will take care of some health issue in His best way only or succumb to doubt at the next twinge. We can budget, line up our bills, and start paying them only to discover we are coming up short.
Whether we are we changing jobs, becoming a parent, taking on a new responsibility, selling or buying a car, selling or buying a house, there are lots of ways our trust in God is tested. Our path to trust lies in knowing that God is good, God is love, and God sees the end before the beginning. Even with a foundation in these truths, we sometimes suffer disappointment when we’ve prayed. But from His omniscient view, His responses are perfect; and we’ll probably only fully understand when we finally meet Him in Heaven. Meanwhile let’s ask Him to help us grow in our ability to trust Him and rest in the peace of God that results from trusting Him.
