We had to admit it was a good use of limited space. The apartment buildings, built long ago along the Brooklyn streets. were three stories high in the densely populated area. Each apartment was narrow in order to cram in yet more people. The basement level was also utilized. Steps going down into what looks like a dark hole, isn’t exactly inviting, but the rent might be low enough to attract people to the mole-like abode. The narrow window at the same level as our feet couldn’t have been any taller than 12 inches. and wouldn’t admit much light. Any dweller there would have to rely on electric lights to see well. People living with such little indoor access to natural lighting need to be hearty of spirit to endure the dim atmosphere.
Wait. We have another source to lift our spirits no matter how dreary our situation or what the cause of our dim circumstances. In John 8:12 NLT, Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” Whatever situation dims our hearts and spirits or complicates our lives, we have the source to enlighten us about how to overcome difficulties whether they be difficult relationships, job issues, or health conditions. We can pray and expect God to shed His light on our circumstances and show us how to illuminate our problems. He will help us and lift our spirits.
