Wayward Dog

Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement

Wayward Doggy

A deer crossing her yard was beyond the dog’s resisting. The temptation to run after this new looking creature stirred all Annie’s dog instincts. As darkness settled over the new yard where she’d only lived a short time, the Chocolate Labrador ran after the intruder on her grass. She ignored the voices calling her back and pursued the chase. Her master hopped in the car, but she had disappeared in the direction of the marsh where he could not follow. After calling and calling, Mama put the dinner on before it grew too cold. The family ate hastily, hoping she’d come home soon. She didn’t. Was she lost in her new setting? Did some coyotes overtake her? As darkness deepened, concern increased. How could they spot her chocolate colored coat against the blend of fallen leaves that covered the ground? The family posted their missing dog on Facebook. They called the sheriff’s office, remembering that he was a resource in their new location.

“She’s been found,” Dad shouted the glad news after his call and drove out again to reclaim their pet. As well as finding their doggie, the family found they had moved into a caring, involved community. The sheriff’s office had been notified, sympathetic people had fed the wayward dog, and another provided her the protection of a garage. The dog’s wagging tail warmed the family’s hearts when she was restored to her concerned family. The warm feeling of a community coming to the rescue also warmed the hearts of the family, new to the area.

Thumping her tail, Annie settled into her crate for the night. Perhaps she dreamed of the illusive deer that lured her away from the safety of home. The children went to bed reassured that their beloved doggie was safely home. We can all rejoice in the parallel of this rescued dog to us, who are assured that Jesus came to this earth to rescue us from the consequences of mistakes of judgement of every kind. Let’s thank Jesus for the sacrifice He made to rescue us.
