Whale’s Tails

“Look!”

“There!”

“The whale’s tail!” Everyone on the small whale-watching boat chortled with delight. With a graceful wave, the humpback whale tail slammed the water, and he disappeared again under the surface of the water. This amazing sight of power and playfulness thrilled his human audience. Several times the passengers enjoyed the rare privilege of observing a humpback breach the surface and slap the water with it’s amazing divided tail. Our knowledgeable guide taught us what to look for as a sign a whale was near and would surface somewhere close to breathe. He helped his delighted passengers look at the right place at the right time to see several tail sightings. One time it was a mother whale and her baby’s tail appearing at the same time. What a treat.

The illusive sight was hard to predict. We appreciated our guide pointing out the signs to look for in anticipation of a whale breaching the surface. He increased our chances of seeing the thrilling sight. The same is true of time spent reading the Bible, time spent in prayer, and every effort to know our Lord better. These activities enhance our ability to catch a glimpse of His guidance as we go through our daily routines. And we can catch sight of His amazing character which thrills our soul as we go about our days. The more we know about our mighty God, the more we can trust and praise Him.
