When the Props Are Knocked Out

When Our Props are Pulled

Sometimes life takes a turn that makes us feel like the props have been pulled out from under our lives. The promotion goes to someone else. A call from the school principal is upsetting.  The diagnosis is alarming.  A loved one withdraws from us.  We fail a qualifying test. So many things can challenge our emotions. We are left with an unsettled feeling, or our sense of justice is violated. Our balance feels out of kilter.

We can groan, complain, or cry, a little of which may provide a beneficial release in the short run; but we need a long-term solution that allows us to go forward toward attitudes that benefit us. Revamping our expectations, our hopes, our plans when our props have been knocked out from under us paves the way to coping with misfortune and allows us to proceed in a profitable manner. God is our best, most reliable help for making challenging adjustments. Ask Him to comfort our hearts, to give us creative ways to cope, and to open up new ways to think. God is able and willing to meet every one of our challenges. He is able to stretch our horizons of thought and give us His ways to regard every circumstance in our life.
