Whether the Weather

Mary’s Monday Musings

Whether the Weather

The predictions were dire. Snow, freezing rain, icy roads, hazardous driving conditions. Not what you want to hear when embarking on a 1,500 mile drive. Since it was winter, we had thought it prudent to plot a southern route for our drive to a conference in Austin, Texas, but the  wintry weather mix forecast prompted a check of the more northern route also. Not much better and lots colder with sub-zero temperatures. On the wings of much prayer from family and faithful prayer warriors, we added boots to our luggage and began our drive. We felt the peace of God as we selected the city for our first night’s stop. Snow fell while we slumbered in a warm motel, and we awakened to find the commuters had already worn the roads clear. We skedaddled onward before the next wave of the snow storm arrived, encountering rain but temperatures above freezing. Our journey turned south well before the weather froze the roads where we had traveled that day. Although Austin shivered in temperatures lower than their accustomed ones for March, the roads were safe.

We thanked God for a safe journey and His protection over us. Do we always experience God’s hand in holding back weather consequences for us? No. Sometimes weather hindrances, car troubles, even health issues mess up our plans. His love is not measured by everything going our way without complications or difficulties. His goals are beyond my understanding. His plans take precedence over ours. But if I am secure that He is good, He is love, and He is merciful, I can see His blessings even when things go wrong. Do I always feel blessed as my plans crumble around me? No. Oh, most emphatically NO! But He’s right there to help me overcome my angst and calm my soul. The final comfort is the realization that God knows what He’s doing, and I know He loves me. The God of the Universe loves little old me and He loves each one of you.
