Winter Colds
Mary’s Monday Musings to Quilt Encouragement.
Winter Colds
The Church service was punctuated with coughs, echoing from one side of the sanctuary to the other. Coughs were as noticeable whenever we stood in lines at the grocery cash registers. We were thankful for the thoughtful grocery stores that put medicated wipes out to run over the handles of the grocery carts. The wildly fluctuating weather with as much as a fifty degree drops one day and as great an increase in temperature the next might have contributed to our vulnerability to winter viruses. The talk at any gathering seems to include accounts of the persistence of nasty viral symptoms. It doesn’t help when people feel like they can’t afford to stay home when they are sick. Viruses are easily spread.
Sometimes I wonder if attitudes aren’t just as easily spread. A frown or a sharp word puts a damper on our day, but a smile, an optimistic remark, a genuine compliment spreads warmth through our being. Aren’t we thankful that spring is around the corner and usually brings an end to the rampant spreading of vicious cold and flu viruses? Let’s take a moment to thank God for all the ways He designed our bodies to fight and defeat sickness. Thankful thoughts help us endure temporary miseries in our body. Thankful patterns of thinking help us undergo and overcome all sorts of trials that challenge us as we go through life. Thanking God is a profitable habit to use in every situation. As the saying goes look for the silver lining in the cloud. If we search, we can say “thank you” for something even in the clouds.
