Young Love

The young couple gazed into one another’s eyes so absorbed in the excitement of young love they were hardly aware of any one around. Somehow, the delight of young lovers with each other opens a glimpse into the love of God. Somehow, when we are wrapped in the magic of falling in love, we get a glimpse into love that lifts us beyond ourselves to give preference to another and substitute the best interest of another over our own interests. In some small way, we grasp a facet of the love of God. The love that took the Son of God to the cross in order to give mankind a look into the depth of God’s love. God loves us regardless of our flaws.

Because we are human, we are flawed. We have an ideal of how our love should look; but because of our human nature, we slip from our desires and slide into anger, selfish thoughts and actions. God has provided a means for us to move past our humanity. We can grab hold of Jesus and allow Him to lift us beyond ourselves. He loves us as we progress through our lives in spite of times when we feel like we are failing. He is always there to help us grow and mature. We can ask Him to help us overcome our baser nature and become more and more founded in God’s will with our actions and our conversations. With His help, we aren’t stuck forever with our flaws. He can enable us to grow and change to reflect His nature more and more.
